The 13th district of Zonta International, a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy, recognized the achievements of two women – Danish parliamentarian and former Minister of Development Cooperation Ulla Tørnæs and founder of the Lithuanian association “Padedu Augti” Inga Laukytė-Budrienė, at its Centennial conference in Copenhagen. The association is a preemie (premature baby) parent support organization that offers services to families, including education and emotional support.
The Foreign Ministers of Lithuania, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Estonia and Latvia gathered in Borgarnes, Iceland on September 11-12 for a Nordic - Baltic (NB8) meeting. Issues of importance for countries in the region were discussed, including regional security challenges, cyber and hybrid threats, relations with Russia and China, the situation in Ukraine, EU and UN agendas, the Arctic, climate change and other issues.
The three founders of Diplomasafe visited the Embassy of Lithuania to present their unique cloud platform for education provides, which prevents credential fraud by allowing the sharing of secure digital online diplomas. A Lithuanian venture capital fund "70 Ventures" has invested 100.000 EUR in this Danish startup, which has recently opened an office in Vilnius.
Vice-Minister of National Defense V.Umbrasas met with Danish counterparts to discuss defence policy priorities, bilateral defense cooperation and to sign a bilateral agreement between the Government of Lithuania and the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark regarding the exchange of classified information. The Vice-Minister also visited the Embassy and two Lithuanian ships in Copenhagen harbour that are participating in Baltic Sea naval exercises „Northern Coasts“ (NOCO). On September 3-4, Rear Admiral Arūnas Mockus, Commander of the Lithuanian Navy, participated in the Maritime/Air Systems & Technologies conference held in Copenhagen, in concert with NOCO.
Two ships from Lithuania - patrol vessel „Žemaitis“ and minesweeper „Skalvis“ – are participating in the 13th edition of maritime exercise Northern Coasts (NOCO). Over 40 ships from 18 nations have gathered in Copenhagen, Denmark for NOCO, which runs through September 18. Northern Coasts is a recurring exercise, which has been taking place in the Baltic Sea since 2007. It is hosted by a different Baltic Sea state each year. Lithuania’s ambassador to Denmark Gintė Damušis, accompanied by Embassy Minister Counsellor Vaidotas Karvelis, visited both navy vessels in Copenhagen harbour at the invitation of the ship commanders.
Charlottenlund Rotary club invited Ambassador Ginte Damusis to speak about Lithuania at Sølyst, Klampenborg. The dinner event was attended by 50 Rotary members, many of whom will travel to Lithuania later this month to visit Vilnius Tech Park, the biggest technology hub in the Baltic region for startups and ICT sector businesses, and other places of interest. Participants were particularly interested in the business climate in Lithuania, which ranks 14th globally for ease of doing business (World Bank, 2018). Over 200 Danish companies are operating in Lithuania, Denmark is in the top 10 of biggest investors.
We remember all the fun we had at Lundehusskolen on September 1st at the opening of the Lithuanian school year with the pupils, their teachers and parents, the Bravo theatre for kids from Lithuania and Lithuania's ambassador to Denmark. Thanks to the Danish Lithuanian Community for a wonderful event.
A few hundred people, mainly Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian students, gathered in Litauens Plads in Copenhagen to mark the 30th anniversary of the Baltic Way. Afterwards, the ambassadors of Lithuania and Latvia, and representatives of the Baltic communities, shared their impressions about this iconic event, which brought the attention of the world to the Baltic issue. On 23 August 1989, over two million people formed a human chain for freedom across the three Baltic states. The spirit and legacy of the Baltic Way lives on!

NATO country ambassadors met with Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former Prime Minister of Denmark and NATO Secretary General, at the Czech ambassador’s residence to discuss issues of interest, such as NordStream 2 and possible sanctions against companies involved in the pipeline project, European defense cooperation and formation of the new Danish government.
The ambassador of Lithuania was invited to join a Shabbat dinner with the Jewish community of Denmark at the Embassy of Poland. The Lithuanian Parliament has designated 2020, which marks the 300th anniversary since the birth of the great Lithuanian Rabbi and most prominent Litvak cultural representative – Elijah ben Solomon Zalman, a.k.a. Vilnius Gaon, as the Year of the Vilnius Gaon and the History of Lithuanian Jews.
Lithuania's ambassador Ginte Damusis visited the DTU laboratory of Irina Borodina, one of four women to win the prestigious 2019 EU Prize for Women Innovators. Born and raised in Kaunas, Lithuania, Irina was recognized for her efforts as co-founder of Biophero , a biotech company in Denmark, producing pheromones as a safe and effective alternative to pesticides.
Presidential election results and other developments in Lithuania were the topics of discussion with Vichit Chitvirmarn, the Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark and Lithuania, during his meeting with Ambassador Ginte Damusis of Lithuania. Lithuania and Thailand will be holding political consultations next week in Vilnius about strengthening bilateral ties, EU-ASEAN relations, cooperation in international organizations, regional questions.
Baltic ambassadors paid tribute to Danish veterans on the International Day of United Nations peace keepers (29 May) during a ceremony at the Kastelet in Copenhagen, attended by Denmark’s Parliamentary Speaker, Chief of Defense and other guests. Lithuania participated in its first UN peace keeping mission in 1994 in Croatia within a Danish battalion.
