Lithuanian Ambassador-at-Large Darius Degutis briefed Danish politicians, officials and experts in Copenhagen on May 17 about a controversial nuclear power plant (NPP) being built in Belarus by Lithuania‘s border, 40 kilometers from its capital city of Vilnius. Belarus is under fire for violating international safety standards, repeated incidents at the construction site, failing to carry out an environmental impact assessment and lack of transparency. Lithuania is seeking to stop construction of the Astravets NPP.
