A concert marking Lithuania’s National Day in Iceland
A concert marking Lithuania’s National Day and Iceland’s recognition of restored Lithuanian independence took place in the landmark Reykjavik - Hallgrimskirkja Church. Contemporary music artist Jurga Šeduikytė and organist Diana Encienė of Lithuania performed a baroque program as a gift to Iceland for being the first country to recognize Lithuania‘s 1990 re-establishment of independence.
“In granting formal recognition to a besieged Lithuania on February 11, 1991, Iceland became a giant in the eyes of the world, particularly Lithuania, which is forever grateful for Iceland’s courage and unwavering support,” said Gintė Damušis, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Denmark and Iceland. The Embassy of Lithuania gratefully acknowledges event partner – Hallgrimskirkja Friends of the Arts Society.
