Ambassador Vytautas Pinkus visited Western and Northern Jutland
Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Denmark Vytautas Pinkus visited municipalities of Holstebro, Skive and Thisted in Jutland.
Administration Manager of the Holstebro Municipality Lars Moeller welcomed Ambassador and introduced him into the history of Holstebro, its achievements in the area of culture and business. Ambassador visited famous Odin Theatre and business developing center Nupark. He was highly impressed by the social projects that create jobs for people with disabilities at Café Utopia. The idea to organize Lithuanian Days in Western Jutland was discussed with the initiative group in Holstebro.
Ambassador V. Pinkus visited the Memorial monument of Lithuanian refugees in Thisted. 1945-1949 in a refugee camp by the city of Thisted lived approximately 750 Lithuanians. As thanks for the hospitality of the local residents Lithuanian refugees created the Memorial monument to Lituania's freedom. Mayor of Thisted County Lene Kjelgaard Jensen together with Ambassador V.Pinkus placed flowers to the Memorial Cross. City Municipality of Thisted and Danish Emergency Management Agency (DNSVA) of Northern Jutland were taking care for several decades of the maintenance and renovation of that Memorial monument. During the meeting with Lene Kjelgaard Jensen and Colonel DNSVA of North Jutland Lennart Kvist Sørensen the story of Lithuanian refugees in Denmark was recalled, the Memorial Cross renovation plans were discussed. Ole and Grethe Heide shared their recollections of childhood interaction with the Lithuanians and maintenance of the monument.
Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Skive Peter Vinther Christensen opened six Lithuanian Artists' exhibition in the gallery Salling. At the opening ceremony Ambassador Vytautas Pinkus thanked owner of the gallery and Peter Vinther Christensen for the promotion of the Lithuanian culture. A group of Lithuanian painters – Elena Balsiukaitytė, Martynas Gaubas, Saulius Dastikas, Ina Budrytė, Romualdas Balinskas and Mantas Maziliauskas – presented their works in Northern Jutland.
