The I, CULTURE Orchestra was formed in 2011 by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of the cultural program of the Polish EU Council Presidency. The Adam Mickiewicz Institute is a Polish national culture institution. Its activity is part of the strategy for promoting Poland abroad, actively participating in international cultural exchange.
From the very beginning, the Orchestra has embodied the key objectives of the Eastern Partnership and strives to become a vehicle for positive cultural and social international development by engaging the most talented young musicians from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Poland. Celebrating the cultural and musical heritage of Central and Eastern Europe, ICO is a young ensemble of remarkably high quality. Its mission is to achieve artistic perfection while respecting and cherishing the cultural diversity among the musicians from the seven countries participating in the project. Under renowned conductors, ICO has performed its international tours to great acclaim in some of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls, including the Berliner Philharmonie, London’s Royal Festival Hall and the Teatro Real in Madrid. The orchestra’s 2013 tour includes Gdansk, Reykjavik, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Tallinn and Kyiv.
