Letter from the President of Iceland to Lithuanians in Iceland
The President of Iceland Guđni Th. Jóhannesson's reply to an open letter from Lithuanian community to His Excellency.
In the letter, the President thanks the Lithuanian community for supporting Iceland's position. His Excellency ensures that, even as an unarmed state, it will never accept threats to the democracy, condemns Belarus' role in the conflict, and expresses hope for the effectiveness of measures against aggressors.
The President ends the letter with warm regards - "I send warm wishes to Lithuanians and people of Lithuanian descent living in Iceland. Until recently, Lithuania suffered oppression for many years. I visited Lithuania for the first time in 1994. I have been fascinated by the country and its people ever since. "Freedom" and "Lithuania" were the first words I read and learned in Lithuanian. And now we must all be united with Ukraine's Sovereignty and its Democracy."
