Lithuanian Days in Copenhagen

More than 1,000 people attended the ‘Lithuanian days’ festival on May 20th-23rd in Copenhagen. The festival began with a viewing of Lithuanian short films on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday was followed by a conference "Lithuanian and Danish societies – the dynamics and changes during the last 25 years". Welcoming the participants of the conference Lithuanian ambassador Vytautas Pinkus thanked the Lithuanian Youth Society in Denmark for the festival initiative, the diversity of the programme, expressed his delight that the festival is becoming a lovely tradition showing the maturity of the relatively young organization.

The conference was moderated by Uffe Gardel (DK) from Berlingske. Rita Miliūtė  discussed “Changes of media perception in Lithuania over the last quarter of this century”, Danguole Gaileviciute, who has been living in Denmark since 1991 shared her own personal experiences, Casper Cordes a composer and a Danish language teacher gave an insight to: “Culture as a motor of a change: small countries, small languages and big mentalities”.

Saturday was a vibrant day filled with live music performances with over 20 amateur and experienced musicians at and around Verdenskulturcentret and Sankt Hans Torv, named as the ‘street musician’s day’. Families with or without children had a chance to participate in workshops ‘LT design’ that included create your own ‘Lithuanian identity’ t-shirt, a chocolate and a silhouette workshops for children, that they enjoyed in particular. The festival Grand Finale was a concert from famous Lithuanian bands “Candee Train” and “ SKAMP”.
