OPENING CONCERT OF THE LITHUANIAN EU COUNCIL PRESIDENCY 2013 ON MONDAY, 1 JULY

The day Lithuania starts the Presidency of the Council of the European Union will be marked by a concert in Tivoli with some of internationally acknowledged Lithuania‘s musicians Lukas Geniušas and Čiurlionis Quartet who will perform classical music including music written by Lithuania's one of the most known composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis.

The event is organized by Lithuanian Embassy in Denmark in collaboration with Tivoli Gardens and National Philharmonic Society of Lithuania.

LUKAS GENIUŠAS

Lukas Geniušas has been participating in international music competitions and festivals since at an early age. He has received a number of awards including Scottish International Piano Competition 2007 (2nd place), Musica della Val Tidone in Pianello, Italy 2009 (1st place) Gina Bachauer International Artists Competition in Salt Lake City 2010 (1st place) and a silver medal in the 16th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2010. He was also a soloist at the symphony orchestras in Hamburgand and Duisburg, BBC Scottish Symphony, Kremerata Baltica, Katowice Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Warsaw Philharmonic. Lukas Geniušas also has collaborated with well known musicians including Gidon Kremer, Andrey Boreyko, Saulius Sondeckis, Dmitry Sitkovetskij, Mario Brunello, Antoni Wit, Dmitry Liss and many more. His concert tours have taken him to France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Poland, Lithuania, Japan, Korea, USA and Germany.

During the 2012/2013 season Lukas Geniušas went on tour in Denmark and played concerts in both Milan’s Sala Verdi and in Salt Lake City with the Utah Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he has received a series of awards and scholarships from Vladimir Spivakov Foundation and Mstislav Rostropovitj Foundation to name a few.

ČIURLIONIS QUARTET

In recent years Čiurlionis Quartet has been one of the leading chamber music ensembles in Lithuania. For nearly half a century they have garnered critical acclaim for their concerts all over Europe. The quartet was founded in 1968 and took their name after Lithuania's one of the most known composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. Čiurlionis Quartet has performed not only all across Europe but also in Canada and Japan reaching more than 3 700 concerts worldwide. It also participated in most major international music festivals including Berliner Festwochen, Pražské Jaro, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Flanders Festival, Janačkův May and Meranofest. Furthermore, they have played in most famous concert halls across Europe including Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Beethoven in Bonn, Schauspielhaus in Berlin and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

Free with a yearly ticket to Tivoli - the price for other guests is 50 DKK at the entrance to the concert hall aside from the entrance fee to Tivoli.
