Vygaudas Usackas attended the conference in Copenhagen
Former Foreign Minister of Lithuania Vygaudas Usackas was invited to comment shared Danish-Russian challenges and interests in the Arctic and around the Baltic Sea at a discussion organized in Copenhagen by the Danish Foreign Policy Society and Russian International Affairs Council. “First we must recognize that serious differences exist between the EU and Russia on fundamental freedoms, human rights, rule of law, security threats and economic relations.
For the Baltic States, US participation is key to any real dialogue with Russia. But small steps can be taken to keep the bridges of cooperation open”, argued V. Ušackas. His comments were supported by Professor Igor Gretskiy of St. Petersburg State University, who stressed that Cold War perceptions in the Kremlin still hinder Russia’s democratic development.
